IS WHITE FLOUR BAD FOR YOU?  Plain & Simple the answer is “YES”!

I know what you are thinking.  How do I give up the only flour I have eaten all my life?

Well here are my thoughts:  Unless you have a wheat allergy, I believe in cutting down the use of this commonly known flour.  I don’t eliminate it entirely but I have significantly reduced and replaced it with other flours to make it healthier as well as gluten free.  I believe in “moderation”.  I have never agreed with diet terms such as “all or nothing”.  That is the reason why many people cannot stick to change.  My experience is that by eating this way at least 80% of the time, you reduce the risk of experiencing side effects when you do eat normal foods when eating out or those special occasions.

When you love a particular food and eat it, day in and day out, you can become intolerant to that food which is what happened to me.  I have a gluten sensitivity which is why I now substitute this flour with my favourites:

Rice Flour, Coconut Flour, Almond Flour/Almond Meal (these are my top 3)

brown rice flour

flour

almond meal

I have incorporated these flours in alot of my recipes especially in my baked goods ranging from pancakes, cookies & muffins, just to name a few.   I have also used (white rice flour) in my homemade gravies and it works wonderfully.

Basically, anything that has white flour, I think of alternative options which are better for you.  I have found that “brown rice flour” is best in pancakes.  White Rice Flour as a thickening agent in gravies & sauces.  As for pastas, I love SPELT PASTA BEST but it’s not wheat or gluten free.  Another great option for gluten free pasta for me would be “rice or corn pastas” (you just have to make sure you do not overcook it, for best results).  Surprisingly, brown rice lasagna noodles are delicious!

After making this change, I didn’t feel as bloated and heavy after consuming these foods.  White Flour is such a bad source of carb, it lacks nutrients and is heavily processed and most of all it has “gluten”.  I thought by using unbleached flour, it would be better but it really isn’t.  It’s probably better than regular white flour but it still has been treated with other chemicals and it will still give you that bloated tummy feeling after consuming it.

In conclusion,

Why wait until you have issues before making the change.  “You only have 1 body and it’s up to you to take care of it!”
